Authorship Criteria
EUMJ applies strict rules to avoid “guest” (honorary), “gift” (mutually supportive), or “ghost” (uncredited professional) authorship. Every listed author must meet all four of the following criteria from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE):
- 1
Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.
- 2
Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
- 3
Final approval of the version to be published.
- 4
Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Note on Non-Author Contributions
Individuals who provided financial backing, administrative assistance, copyediting, or general institutional oversight without contributing to the core intellectual content do not qualify for authorship. They should be recognized in the Acknowledgements section instead.
CRediT Contributor Roles
Authors must submit a CRediT-based contribution statement using one or more of the 14 standard roles:
Required format
Author Contributions: M.A.R.: Conceptualization, Methodology, Formal Analysis, Writing – Original Draft. S.T.N.: Investigation, Data Curation, Writing – Review and Editing. K.L.H.: Supervision, Funding Acquisition, Resources. All authors have read and approved the final manuscript.
